Devaluation, Not Expiration, Is the Real Risk
Unlike most airline programs, Atmos Rewards points do not expire, so there is no ticking clock forcing a decision.Β However, Alaska has adjusted its award charts multiple times in recent years, and your rewards will loses value quickly over time. Selling locks in today's market value instead of leaving that value exposed to the next devaluation.

Cash Gives You Complete Flexibility
‍
Atmos points can only be spent within the Alaska, Hawaiian, and oneworld partner network. Cash works everywhere, on any airline, any cabin, any schedule, with no award calendar to work around.

Your Travel Plans Changed
‍
Many Atmos and former Mileage Plan members built their balance during years of heavier Alaska or Hawaiian travel that no longer matches their current routine. If you have moved away from an Alaska hub, switched carriers, or your travel plans simply changed, a points balance with no realistic redemption path is better converted to cash than left idle.

How Much Are Alaska / Atmos Miles Worth in Cash?

Alaska and Atmos points are generally valued around 1.2 to 1.5 cents each for standard domestic redemptions, with premium cabin redemptions on oneworld partners like Japan Airlines and Cathay Pacific delivering meaningfully more, often in the 1.5 to 2.0 cent range.

What Is Atmos Rewards (Formerly Alaska Mileage Plan)?

Atmos Rewards is the current name for Alaska Airlines' loyalty program, formerly known as Mileage Plan. Alaska renamed the program in August 2025 as part of combining it with Hawaiian Airlines' HawaiianMiles following the two carriers' merger, and HawaiianMiles balances folded into Atmos on a 1:1 basis that October. If you earned your balance as Alaska Mileage Plan miles, they are now Atmos Rewards points, same account number, same balance, same value.

‍

Members earn points through Alaska and Hawaiian flights, oneworld partner airlines (Alaska is a oneworld member, with Hawaiian joining the alliance in 2026), co-branded credit cards, and everyday spending. Atmos points can be redeemed for award flights on Alaska, Hawaiian, and their partner network, upgrades, and other travel rewards. The strongest value, as with most airline currencies, comes from award flights, particularly premium cabin redemptions through oneworld partners like Cathay Pacific and Japan Airlines.

‍

Important: Alaska eliminated mile expiration in April 2023, and that policy carried over to Atmos Rewards. Your points do not expire regardless of account activity.

‍

The Atmos Transition Adds Uncertainty

Another reason you might want to sell your your Atmos Rewards Points is that there are still uncertainty attached to how these rewards will work. The Alaska-Hawaiian merger and the Atmos rebrand are still rolling out changes as of 2026, including new elite status thresholds and evolving earning structures. For members who are not actively following the transition or do not have upcoming travel that depends on it, an idle balance sitting through a period of program change is a reasonable one to convert to cash now rather than wait and see.
