Earning a free night with Marriott Bonvoy can be a real joy.

Each year, after renewal of your Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express® Card/Marriott Bonvoy™ American Express® Card, you will receive one Free Night Award from Marriott Bonvoy.

The Free Night Award will be automatically deposited into your Marriott Bonvoy member account in the form of an e-certificate within 8-12 weeks after your renewal month.

The Free Night Award e-certificate will expire EXACTLY one-year from issuance

But what if you have an expiring certificate you can't use yourself?

The good news is you have few options:

1. Gift it to a friend - Sounds easy but no. You would need make a reservation for someone else, add them as a second guest and pay the additional mandatory resort fees at the property.
